As an illustrator most of my time is spent drawing relatively cute and pretty pictures aimed to appease conservative publishers and appeal to a young market. Thus, my private sketchbook is a haven to unfetter my brain on paper... (If you are looking for my usual work in children's literature, check out my regular blog at http://benredlich.blogspot.com/)
I felt like trying a different medium this session, so I thought I'd give pencil and gouache a go. I struggled a bit, as I'm a lot quicker with a pen, and this method slowed me down. I think these look a bit rushed.
I hate public transport, purely because Brisbane's is a shamble, but my transport of choice, after my car, is the train. I get motion sick trying to read or draw on buses, but trains aren't so bad. You get some interesting sorts on the train too...
I though I'd try out some life drawing at the Brisbane Institute of Art at Windsor, only about 10 minutes from where I live (with miles of parking!!). This model's name was Jenny. So many beautifully pronounced curves to draw, perfect!
